dc.description.abstract"The desire to cripple the Black Music Division is a symptom of the college's current hypocrisy about its role in the arts and the world. If it hopes to regain its role as a pioneer, it must decide to do so, and know that it has decided, and function accordingly. If it wants instead to limit itself to the perpetuation of styles that have already been widely accepted, safely passed the test of public opinion then it should admit to this change in its philosophy, and not waste its integrity by having to keep up a front."en_US
