Item Academic Calendar(1968-10-08) Stewart, EdithItem Ad Reinhardt's Lecture on Art(1965-11-30)"Several weeks ago, I decided to publish, for general consideration, my notes from Ad Reinhardt's lecture on art. Reactions to this gesture seems to have been confused: for the record, let it said that I did it because I was very impressed with Mr. Reinhardt 's remarks. Also for the record, I am recording below in full, another version of the notes. A member of the staff sent a copy of t he Galley to Mr. Reinhardt, who returned it with many changes I apologize for my inaccurate original."Item Administration Opposes Change in the Rule Regulating Hours for Men in Student Rooms(1968-03-22)"The Administration, meeting as a constituency, expresses its opposition to the adoption of the change in the rule regulating hours for men in student rooms recently voted by the Student constituency....we are aware that the issue before us is not simple; nor will it be resolved merely by approving or disapproving the proposal before us. Members of the Bennington community are warmly invited to join with the townspeople in meditation, to be followed by coffee and informal discussion. At 9:00 P.M. in Commons Lounge, Robert McKelvey will give a talk on "Vietnam: Alternatives." It's a good word, in line with the old Bennington belief in the integrity of the individual. The present thinking revolves around the question of autonomy vis-a-vis rules but the two ought not to be intertwined. Our outlook ought not to be autonomy in order to circumvent the existing rules, but rather, autonomy to encourage individual and community growth."Item Avant Garde Drama Criticism(1966) Gribble, GretaA response to a letter written by the drama division to the editor of Quadrille. "It is certainly not because "no one dares to speak out against the avent-garde'' that no criticism has been leveled against this specific department on previous occasions. We have expectantly attended production after production, only to be flailed with the contortive attempts of a wishful avant gardism that cannot even claim the dubious distinction of being unique. It does seem a little like a rationalization-mechanism to attribute the loss of a complete. audience during the course of a performance to the audience's unpreparedness for such a "new and unprecedented venture.''
