    First Annual Report of The Bennington School of the Dance

    The plan for the Bennington School of the Dance, held from July 7 to August 18, 1934, was announced in a Bennington College Bulletin issued in February, 1934, Vol. II, No. 3, entitled, "The Bennington School of the Dance." ..the purpose of the School was to establish a center for the study of the modern dance in America such as was not otherwise in existence and for which a definite need was evident.

    The Bennington Festival Series for the season of 1937 includes seven concerls in the modern dance, of which these arc the two final concerts. The Series is presented by artists who we leaders in the modern dance and members o[ the faculty of The Ben-nington School of the Dance. The first four programs in the 1937season were: Doris Humphrey and Charles Weidman, two dance concerts with their groups; MarthaGraham, two solo dance concerts; Esther Junger, Jose Limon and Anna Sokolow; one concert of solo and group dances. The two final concerts in the Series present Hanya Holm as choreographer and dancer with her Concert Group and students of the 1937 Workshop Group of the School in two performances of TREND composed during the 1937 session of The Bennington School of the Dance and danced for the first time in these pro-grams.
