Abstract
In 1975, the board appointed an ad hoc subcommittee called the “Committee on Future Directions” to address the College’s emerging financial difficulties. The committee’s report rebuked the College for moving away from its innovative roots, The report was critical of presumptive tenure. It recommended a 3-3-7 cycle with a review in the 5th year of the 7-year contract and “there should be a clearly expressed expectation that at most one-quarter of those who reach this third review will be retained.”
