Abstract

The purpose of this report is : 1. To study the adequacy and condition of the present individual heating boilers and their auxiliary equipment. 2. To present recommendations and cost estimates for present equipment requiring replacement. 3. To investigate the feasibility of a central heating plant and steam distribution system . 4. To present preliminary schemes and cost estimates for a central heating plant and steam distribution system. 5. To compare oil with other possible fuels. 6. To determine whether the present system of individual heating plants should be continued in the new library and other future buildings. Our recommendations are: 1. That a central heating plant and steam distribution system be constructed at the earliest possible time. 2 . That this plant should have minimum facilities cost ing $258,390, but that capacity for future expansion and space for central maintenance shops be added if funds are available . 3. That the new library be provided with a temporary or rental heating unit . Our conclusions on which these recommendations are based are given below . The body of the report develops the reasons for these conclusions. 1 . a. The existing individual boiler plant equipment is in bad condition and is approaching the end of its use full life . b . There is no spare equipment to provide heat in case of emergency breakdown.
